At Ewanrigg
Junior School we strive to promote British values
through our curriculum. We have had learning days based
on current events such as the vote to stay or remain in
the EU. The children learned the facts from both sides,
debated their ideas and had a vote. It is important to
promote the values of democracy to allow children to
make up their own minds and vote for the option they
feel is best. The children practise this through voting
for our class councillors and debating topics linked to
project and English. We encourage mutual respect for and
tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and
for those without faith through RE and PSHCE lessons as
part of their SMSC learning. A promotion of empathy and
understanding is taught throughout the school and
encouraging the development of the children's
self-knowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence is vital
in Ewanrigg Junior School. Our Golden Rule is to treat
others and their property the way you would want them to
treat you and yours which encourages mutual respect.
